Part One

Our group intends to connect with the organization FACETS to help raise awareness of homelessness and its effects on the local communities. Since 1988, FACETS has been a non-profit organization whose vision has been to break the cycle of homelessness in Fairfax County by building strong and safe communities. The organization’s mission has been to build strong families and safe communities by improving the quality of life for impoverished men, women and children through comprehensive programs addressing physical, spiritual and emotional needs. We plan on working directly alongside the organization by volunteering and helping FACETS provide programs, services, and supportive housing to the homeless precariously housed in Fairfax County to help develop safer communities and better living situation away from poverty.

According to the 2009 Point-in-Time survey, there are more than 1700 individuals who are homeless in Fairfax County. FACETS helps people identify the steps they need to take to achieve their personal goals for self-sufficiency and junks. We want to help responds to the needs of disadvantaged people with the dignity and understanding they deserve.

Carrie Idol, Llana’s internship sponsor, is our main contact for this project. She will provide us a venue and resources in order for us to successfully convey our message. She may be contacted via email at facets@facetscares.org or by telephone at (703) 352-5090. Our assessment will be evaluated based on her criteria on volunteering activities, how we interact and communicate with the homeless, and meetings with FACETS every other week.
